Zephyr Quartet is a new music ensemble that exists to create exceptional performance experiences that resonate and communicate with audiences.
Since its inception in 1999, Zephyr Quartet has shown a continued determination to expand the boundaries of art music and how it is received by audiences. A firm believer in the power of the string quartet as a medium to communicate and explore complex relationships between society and art, Zephyr has achieved an enviable national reputation for artistic excellence, innovation and audience development.
The quartet embraces collaborative practices, drawing inspiration from working with leading artists from backgrounds including visual arts, dance, poetry and theatre to produce work that is vital, current and courageous.
Recent projects include: Toddlertheque - a concert for toddlers with DJ TR!P presented at COME OUT Festival 2011; Hunting: Gathering - a collaboration with designer Khai Liew, part of the SALA Festival 2010; and Impulse with Leigh Warren and Dancers presented at the Holland Dance Festival in 2009. |

Belinda Gehlert – Violin |
Belinda studied at the University of Adelaide with Keith Crellin and holds a Diploma and a Bachelor in violin performance and a postgraduate diploma in jazz violin performance. An accomplished performer, improviser, composer and arranger of music, Belinda’s experience as a freelance artist spans across many genres. In addition to her work with Zephyr Quartet, Belinda is a member of the Adelaide Art Orchestra, a casual musician with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the founding member of The Ruby Frost String Quartet. As a performer, her career highlights include performing in the 2004 production of the Ring Cycle, and national and international touring with Australian Youth Orchestra. As a professional composer, Belinda composes and arranges music for the Zephyr Quartet, The Ruby Frost Quartet and theatre. |

Emily Tulloch – Violin |
Emily is currently balancing an active musical life while completing her Honours in Spanish at Flinders University. In 2003 she completed her BMus at the Elder Conservatorium, Adelaide, and in 2004 received first class Honours. Her strong interest in orchestral playing has seen her perform and tour with Adelaide-based ensembles such as Co-Opera and the Adelaide Art Orchestra, and nationally with the Australian Youth Orchestra. She has also been involved in youth music ensembles for a number of years, maintaining an active role in the development of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra from its inception to 2005, acting as Concertmaster/Mentor in 2004-5 and now as violin tutor. She also enjoys musical theatre and has played in productions of The Phantom of the Opera, The Boy From Oz and Miss Saigon. Emily has undertaken two research trips to the city of Merida on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, collecting music from the trova yucateca tradition which featured in Zephyr Quartet's 2010 performance "Musica del Sol". Her Honours thesis discusses the representation of the city of Merida through the lyrics of the trova yucateca repertoire. |

Lilian-Terri Dahlenburg – Viola |
Lilian was awarded her AMEB Associate Diploma of Music Australia (A.Mus.A) in 2000 studying under Margaret Pell. She commenced tertiary studies with Anthony Doheny at the University of Melbourne. During her degree she switched to viola, studying with Caroline Henbest and in 2006 was awarded A.Mus.A in viola. Lilian completed Honours Performance with Keith Crellin at the Elder Conservatorium in 2007. Lilian has participated in the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute (2006), Winterschool Program, Australian Festival of Chamber Music (2007), Australian Youth Orchestra (2008-2009) and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestral Career Development Program (2009). Lilian has been a member of the Melbourne Opera Company (2005-2007), Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra (2005-2007) which toured to China and is currently a member of the Adelaide Art Orchestra. Lilian has tutored for Peninsula Youth Music Society VIC and Melbourne Youth Music Camp. She currently teaches at Prince Alfred College and for the Junior Access Program, Elder Conservatorium. |

Hilary Kleinig – Cello |
Hilary plays cello, baroque cello and viola da gamba and has studied in Australia at the Elder Conservatorium with Niall Brown and Janis Laurs and in the UK with Anna Shuttleworth and Alison Crumb. She is a multi-skilled musician whose work includes performance, composition and arranging, education and arts management. Hilary has worked in live and recorded performance as a freelance musician and in orchestras for opera, ballet and musicals. As a baroque specialist she regularly plays with chamber ensembles such as Syntony, Adelaide Baroque, Adelaide Chamber Singers and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Hilary composes and arranges music for film, dance, theatre and ensembles. She is also a dedicated teacher of cello and conductor of ensembles. |
